John Jagger

M, b. circa 1620, d. 1699
John Jagger was one of the founders of Southampton, Long Island, New York, but information about his origin has not been found. It is presumed that he was an immigrant, born in England around 1620, although there is a popular school of thought that he was born in Stamford, Connecticut. While his name is recorded as one of the Southampton founders in 1640, his presence in that community is not recorded consistently until he built a house their in 1651, and with wife Hannah raised nine children. He was born circa 1620.1 He died in 1699 in Southampton, Suffolk county, New York.2

William Jayne1

M, b. 25 January 1617/18, d. 24 March 1714
William Jayne has been the subject of much genealogical speculation over the years, some researchers claiming that he was a graduate and lecturer at Oxford, a chaplain to Oliver Cromwell, a descendant of Guido de Jeanne (an ally of Henry II) and other colorful identities. Since he arrived in the New World ten years after the Restoration, close alliance to Cromwell is dubious. Indeed, he was a cooper, a valued trade in America. He quite possibly changed his name from de Jeanne to Jayne at some point to disguise his identity. William Jayne was also known as William De Jeanne.2,1 He was a cooper.1 He was born on 25 January 1617/18 in Bristol, Glouchestershire, England.1,2 He was the son of Henry De Jeanne.1 He married ? Perkins in England.1 He married Anna Biggs, daughter of John Biggs, on 10 June 1675 in New Haven, Connecticut.3 He married Ann Jennings in 1683 in New Haven, Connecticut.1 He married Mehitable Jenkins in 1694.1 He died on 24 March 1714 in Setauket, Suffolk county, New York, at age 96.3 He was buried on 26 March 1714 in Floyd Cemetery, Suffolk county, New York.3
