James Parshall1

M, b. circa 1650, d. 15 September 1701
James Parshall 's origins and parents are not known. Several 19th century family historians attempted to connect James with Sir Richard de Pershall, knight and high sheriff of Staffordshire under Edward III, with more wishful thinking than proof. James Parshall was unable to write his name (as evidenced by the few deeds and wills to which he affixed his mark) and the spelling of his surname is therefore approximate. Pershall, Pearsall, Piershall, and Pashall are other spellings which his father may have used. He was born circa 1650 in England.1 He married Elizabeth Gardiner, daughter of David Gardiner and Mary Lerringman, circa 1678 in Suffolk county, New York.1 He died on 15 September 1701 in Southold, Suffolk county, New York.1
