     James Wakefield was the son of John Wakefield and Elizabeth Littlefield. He was granted 100 acres in Kennebunk in 1699. He married Rebecca Gibbons, daughter of James Gibbons and Unknown Lewis, before 1700. He died on 25 October 1707 in Wells, York county, Maine; drowned with brother William, Moses and Job Littlefield and Joseph Storer, jr., on October 25, 1707 when their fishing sloop was overturned.

Samuel Wakefield

     Samuel Wakefield was a farmer. He was born circa 1737 in Kennebunk, York county, Maine.1 He was the son of Samuel Wakefield and Ruth Godfrey. He married Ruth Burbank, daughter of John Burbank and Hannah (?), on 17 November 1757.2 He served in the American Revolution, according to a number of sources. Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors refers to a Samuel Wakefield of Township No. 4 who served intermittently as a corporal in various Lincoln county units. (Maine was at that time part of Massachusetts.) Records of Deeds of Lincoln notes a mortgage given by Samuel Wakefield of No. 4 to Shaw and Gould dated January 1, 1773.3 He died in Steuben, Washington county, Maine.
