William Wells1

M, b. circa 1608, d. 13 November 1671
William Wells was a lawyer. He was born circa 1608 in England. His origins and early life are in dispute, and many published sources are unreliable. It is clear that he arrived from England, having acquired legal training there. He probably arrived first in Massachusetts, then became one of the founders of Southold, Long Isand in 1640, part of the group of followers of Rev. John Youngs. It is widely agreed that he married twice, first to a Bridget, and second to a Mary, with whom he had at least seven children. He died on 13 November 1671 in Southold, Suffolk county, New York. He was buried in Old Burying Ground, Southold, Suffolk county, New York.2
