Isabelle McNicoll Mello
     Isabelle McNicoll was born in September 1877 in New York.1 She was the daughter of John McNicoll and Emma Decker.2,3 She married Joseph M. Mello, son of Joseph Mello and Mary Silveira, on 5 June 1895 in Redwood City, San Mateo county, California.4,5 She and Joseph M. Mello appeared on the 1900 Federal Census of San Francisco, California, at 363 Arlington St., enumerated 8 June 1900. Their children Chester and Clinton were listed as living with them, as was Joseph's sister an unknown person.1 She and Joseph M. Mello appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Contra Costa county, California, at Rancho los Meganos, enumerated 16 May 1910. Their children Chester, Webster, Ramona, Leona, Bernal and Vernal were listed as living with them.6 She murdered her four youngest children by drowning on 30 July 1910. She was admitted to Stockton State Hospital for insanity on 12 August 1910. She and Joseph M. Mello appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Dent Township, San Joaquin county, California, at Stockton Road, enumerated 24 February 1920. Their children Chester and Webster were listed as living with them.7 She appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Stockton, San Joaquin county, California, at Stockton State Hospital for the Insane, enumerated 20 April 1930.8 She died on 23 February 1935 in Stockton State Hospital, Stockton, San Joaquin county, California, at age 57.9 Cause of death was Huntington's Chorea, psychosis with Huntington's Chorea.9 She was buried on 26 February 1935 in Stockton Rural cemetery, San Joaquin county, California.9
